Burglary statistics are truly frightening for the family that lives in any area; it is no longer the homes that are in the city or town that are subjected to the burglar. They have moved to the suburbs and the rural areas, along with families that believe they are getting away from this type of crime. The residential burglary statistics prove this with an estimated home burglary that occurs in the United States every 14.6 seconds. That is not good odds at all for any family; no matter where their home is located and the more isolated they are the more actual danger their house is in for a break-in. The more isolated a house is, the safer the burglar feels that no one will see them breaking into the house. The estimated time that a burglar takes to break into a house is 60 seconds and they will choose the house without a home security system three times more often than a house that is protected.
Burglars are usually smart and educate themselves about home alarms, the one thing they know for certain is the ADT Home security system should be avoided. It needs to be avoided unless they believe they want to spend time behind bars, because this is the one home alarm that can call for help. The technology that goes into the ADT home alarms makes it possible for them to use the home phone or if that is not working correctly to use a cell phone to call the monitoring center. This alone is an advantage that other types of home alarms do not have the technology to use a cell phone and they do not have the five monitoring centers that ADT home alarms have.
There are vulnerable points on every house and the residential burglary statistics explain where burglars choose their entry point the most often.
How Burglars Get Into Houses
- The front door is used an estimated 34 percent of the time by burglars.
- The back door is used approximately 22 percent of the time during a break-in.
- The first floor windows are used an estimated 23 percent of the time as a way for a burglar to enter a house.
- The attached garage is estimated to be used by burglars 9 percent of the time.
- The outside storage door is used 6 percent of the time
- The basement is used by burglars 4 percent during a break-in.
The one thing that having an ADT home security system does is to help protect all of the doors and windows. That is important, because burglars will use any way in they can find that is easy and as the statistics show, burglars have no problem with just using the front door as the most common point of entry.
The Types of ADT Home Alarms
There are two types of ADT home alarms, there is the one that is wired, which means there are wires installed behind the walls and there is the ADT wireless home alarm. The wired system is best used in new or newly built homes, since the wires for the alarm system will need to be inside of the walls and that is not a good option for an older house or a rental. The family that lives in an older house or that rents a house, apartment or condo will find that the ADT wireless home alarm is the one that will be the perfect choice. It has all the same features that provide the top protection from burglaries, smoke, fire, high levels of carbon monoxide and can have other features added to it. Using the ADT wireless alarm will mean that no wires will need to be installed in the walls, since it works on sensors that are placed on the doors and windows to provide protection. This has the ADT alarm monitoring, which means if the sensors are broken during an attempted break-in or the home security system is triggered by smoke, fire or carbon monoxide the monitoring center is alerted.
What Insurance Companies Think of ADT Home Security for Burglary Protection
Insurance companies know that the ADT home security system is the best burglary protection that a family can have and they know that in the event of smoke or fire there is less damage done, due to the fast response by the fire department. This is why many insurance companies offer lower policy rates for the family that has this level of protection from their home security system.
I have seen this home security systems in the past and I have seen more and more advertisements on TV about them. I am seriously thinking that I need to get one because the family next door was broken into a couple of weeks ago and they took everything. Luckily no one was home at the time but what could have happened if they had been. I will definitely research these new systems.
A home security system is a must these days. I just moved and I had a wireless security system in my old house so I brought it with me to install at the new place. Are they hard to re-install? Are there any special calibrations that have to be made or anything? Tonight will be my first night there and I really want it up and running before then.
I heard a disturbing story this afternoon on the local news about a twenty five year old woman who was robbed and sexually assaulted in her home by a young male who trespassed through the back sliding door and held her at knife point. He demanded she hand over her valuables and then proceeded to rape her in front of her 1 month old child. Imagine the horror of just having given birth and then this happens because you didn’t have a security system.
I remember when ADT first started out in the home security systems and they were just your basic run of the mill security alarms. It is amazing to me how much has changed over the years and the new technology that ADT has perfected. From an annoying alarm to a carbon monoxide detector among many other things, that is just a Wow factor and a half.
The burglary statistics are staggering and they are only going to continue to rise until this unemployment thing is over and everybody has a steady income coming in again. I have never had a break in besides my car before and I do not want one so this will be one of the next things I get for my apartment. Great blog, you have a lot of helpful information in there.
We used to live in a really nice house in a really nice neighborhood but when the economy crashed we lost our jobs and we had to move. The neighborhood that we are in now is less than desirable and I hardly ever feel safe enough to sleep. We have got to get a security system so at least I can sleep at night knowing someone is watching us. Thank you for this information.
What do you think Is going to happen if we end up in a state of economic unrest or a recession? People are going to start breaking in for food and everything else they can grab to survive. I hope that an ADT system will prevent them from breaking in my place but I have other means of protection if it doesn’t. I think everyone needs a safe room to hide in.
I predict that burglaries are going to continue to get worse the longer the unemployment lasts, if people keep losing their jobs and then they run out of unemployment to boot what are they supposed to do then? What they are going to do is start steeling what they need or just what they want. As a burglar though I would be worried about this since this year was the biggest year for gun sales.
I have never had a break in besides my car before and I do not want one so this will be one of the next things I get for my apartment. I can’t believe the statistics that are out there on burglary and how much it has increased over the years and even months. I really believe the amount of un-employment and the economy has a lot to do with it.
This may seem like a bit of a radical approach to marketing, but if the ADT agents, who work at the center responding to emergency calls, have access to the video footage that gets recorded by the ADT video cameras, ADT should select any video footage that depict burglaries or suspicious activity and publish the actual footage either in TV commercials or internet web sites to promote a sense of urgency. And why stop there? How about a reality show?
