Today it is easy to protect the house, garage and workshop with an ADT alarm system, by using both the hard wired and wireless system. The house can have the hard wired system, but this type might not work well in the garage or workshop. There is an ADT wireless system that is perfect for the garage or workshop, which has sensors that can be installed on the windows and doors. This provides the same great protection that it does in the house from burglaries, smoke, fire and high levels of carbon monoxide. These sensors work wirelessly, which means there is no need to have wiring installed in the walls and that makes it perfect for areas like the garage or workshop. It also makes it a perfect choice for older homes, apartments, condos and rental houses, where it would be impossible to put wiring in the walls for a hard wired ADT home security system.
One of the best parts about protecting these areas is that even if there is no phone line installed the wireless system can use a cell phone to call out on when the alarm is triggered. It can use the cell phone to alert the monitoring center and then the authorities are sent to the residence. That can make a big difference in whether there is a break-in or not and placing the window decals on the windows of the garage or shed will let anyone thinking of breaking-in that they will trigger the alarm. That should make them decide that the risk is not worth it and that they would be caught.
Protecting the house also means protecting the family when there is an ADT alarm system installed. Not only does this system stop burglaries, but it can protect the family twenty-four hours a day from smoke, fire and carbon monoxide. Burglars do think twice about even getting near to a home that is protected by an alarm system, so when they see the window decals and the sign in the yard they normally will not even attempt it. One of the features that can be used in case the burglar thinks they can outsmart the ADT home security system is using a cell phone as a backup. This means if the alarm is triggered and the home phone line is out of service or the burglar has cut the phone lines, the security system will then use the cell phone to alert the monitoring center. Even the smartest burglar cannot stop that, which means the authorities are on the way and they will be caught and arrested.
This is how it is possible to protect the house, garage and workshop from burglaries or any other type of danger, whether the family is home or not twenty-four hours a day. This is a feeling of security and helps to avoid the traumatic experience that is felt when a home is burglarized. Nothing makes a family feel more unsafe than to know a burglar has been in their house, in the workshop or garage. They often worry this stranger might return and having the protection of ADT home security takes away the risk of break-ins.
I just have a couple of questions in regards to the wireless system. If it is not hard wired then obviously it takes batteries correct? How often do you have to change the batteries so you aren’t caught unaware? And you said the system can call it in on a cell phone line, how does that work exactly, do you have to have a dedicated cell phone for just the system? How often do you run into cases where cel phone reception is a factor, you know with dead zones and what not? Is it true that people have kind of tainted the signs in the yard and in the windows being a deterrent because people have been putting up the signs without having the system installed just to hopefully scare them off? Your article has some really good information in it and I will keep you in mind as I do my comparison shopping.
It really is great to have an alarm system that can cover so much ground. Having it protect from some disasters as well as burglarly is a great plus.
I’m currently looking for an alarm system but would probably need a wireless one. Can you give me more info on how the wireless system works and how ADT ensures that the alarm system stays armed/online with no wires?

Well I am a gun advocate so I immediately thought of my shotgun when I started reading your article about how to defend your home. I will admit though that I can not be in every place at all times in order to cover the garage and workshop as well as the home. And a shotgun is probably not the way of choice to protect your home because of the gun laws out there. Back in the day that would have been good enough but now days you as the home owner could go to jail for shooting someone that is breaking into your own home (absolutely crazy). The best way to protect your home now is to get a security system and there are many of them, depending on what you want and how much you want to spend. Do some comparison shopping, don’t just settle for one because the salesman got to you first or it got good reviews from a friend, make up your own mind, after all it is your money and your
There are certainly a lot of features I never new existed in an ADT home security system. I did not realize how far home security systems have come. I guess over time, as an industry and an established home security company continues to evolve, they analyze feedback from customers and product usage and devise new features to fill the needs of people living in various types of homes. It makes me wonder what new features and technologies will be invented in the future by ADT. Will we see home security systems that are like something right out a science fiction novel? The prospects are exciting to imagine and comforting to know that we can only get better at safeguarding our homes.
Is it must me or is there a prevailing, foreboding feeling among the general public because of increased lawlessness, particularly violent crimes such as home invasions. I think the state of the economy and job market are also a factors as they drive poor people to desperation and even crime. The article makes some very valid points. Burglars look for the path of least resistance and they would rather move on to another house that has not alarm system rather than take on the more difficult challenge of a home security system. It’s just easier for them to move on. The fact that no wiring needs to be installed in the walls makes the ADT system very ideal for any home.
Some Americans believe in the right to bear arms. Certainly, many in rural areas throughout the Southeast and Midwest exercise that right. But not everyone can or is experienced or suited to protect their property in such a manner. Many of us live in urban, metropolitan cities, in high rise buildings or in suburban communities and we need to be less offensive and ore defensive in the way we protect our loved ones and our homes. I am one of those persons and in doing my due diligence, I discovered the ADT security system. I had always heard of it in TV commercials, but I was always under the assumption that it had to be built into the walls of the home. Until I read this article, I did not know the system is so portable and easy to install. This is a game changer and has made me reconsider, or should I say seriously consider getting a system for my home.
It sounds like to me for this particular case you would need both a hardwired system and a wireless system. I would hardwire the house and wireless the garage and work shop, but only if they can be monitored on the same channel because if they have different channels don’t you have to pay for them separate of each other? Some friends of mine have an ADT system and they love it they said the only thing they don’t like is the false alarms that they sometimes get, but that was before this new key chain system came on line. Has the key chain really helped this problem? If you could respond to my question that would be really great I am doing some serious research right now and these kinds of things will be helpful when it comes time to make up my mind
This is important information for home owners to get familiar with. Unfortunately, most people live with a false sense of security, not realizing just how susceptible they are to robbery or worse, a home invasion. Besides gun owners, who are well trained on how to fire their gun(s), can anyone honestly say to themselves that they are safe from crime within their home and property? If they are honest with themselves, the answer to that question in most cases would have to be no. People who can afford a home security system and fail to purchase one are simply in denial about their security. And that’s why I say there is a prevailing false sense of security among most home owners. They mistaken the fact that the odds having worked in their favor for security, when the truth is it is only a matter of time before the odds balance out and they become victims.
I would install motion detectors and a hardwired system and a wireless system. I would hardwire the house and wireless the garage and work shop, and use the motion sensors everywhere. Some friends of mine have an ADT system and they love it they said the only thing they don’t like is the false alarms that they sometimes get, but that was before this new key chain system came on line. They were talking about their system being monitored on a different channel then others and that made me wonder, would you have to have two separate channels if you have a wired system and a wireless system as well? If that is the case would you be charged double because of that? If you could respond to my question that would be really great I am doing some serious research right now and these kinds of things will be helpful when it comes time to make up my mind. I am researching the motion detectors right now and I am trying to find a system that includes them.
You can mix a wireless and hardwired system and it would be monitored under one account, so you would only be charged once.
I believe that stepping out of your comfort zone is one of the most difficult things to do. No one likes the awkward feeling that you get when you try something new. But the awkward place is where God meets you and you lean on Him to get you through it and by doing that you grow in unfathomable ways. if you never get uncomfortable you are never going to grow and if you never grow you don’t get stronger. And I think the biggest self sabotage pitfall of all is the feeling sorry for yourself, pity parties are no fun, have you ever noticed that no one comes to those parties? Like your article says you need to realize you are human and you aren’t going to win them all but you don’t just set down and give up trying either. Your article is full of great advice that if followed can and will help people grow and overcome challenges in their life making them stronger. Thank you for posting this as always you have done a great job.
In a case like this I would use both a hardwired system and a wireless system. I would hardwire the house and put wireless in the garage and work shop, but only if they can be monitored on the same channel. Some friends of mine have an ADT system and they love it they said the only thing they don’t like is the false alarms that they sometimes get, but I think they came out with something that has pretty well stopped that now. I am doing some comparative shopping right now and the information you have provided will help me make up my mind when the time comes.
I am not as concerned with the work shop or garage as far as protection as I am the house but this is a good idea especially if the garage is attached to the house and has a door to get inside. I think in this case I would want some motion detectors out in the garage that would set something off in the house when some one was in there, and I would definitely go with wireless sensors so that you didn’t have to string all that wire but it wouldn’t be able to be damaged in the garage area either. Your blog is full of great advice and I loved the others about home systems as well.
I am not as worried about the garage or work shop unless they are attached to the house and they have an entrance into the house, so I am not going to pay extra to have them monitored as well. I do find it interesting though that this last Summer there were tons of break-ins into people’s garages during the day. I guess that way they looked like they belonged there. If you are worried about that area though I would suggest a wireless one that doesn’t necessarily need a monitoring company but it sets off a loud alarm that can be heard all over the neighborhood and maybe that would scare them off. But if the cost really doesn’t matter than by all means go ahead and combine it with the house security system.
I know this is not the old west or hillbilly days but I will admit that as a gun advocate I immediately thought of my shotgun when I started reading your article about how to defend your home. I know that is not the proper way to do things anymore but it makes me wonder if that was the norm and the crooks knew it would they still be breaking in to people’s homes? But with the gun laws in force the crooks know that if they get shot during a break in there is a good possibility that they will get off Scott free and the homeowner will do time for shooting them so what would the deterrent be? So in hind sight I have to admit the safest and probably best way to protect your home now is to get a security system and there are many of them to choose from, depending on what you want and how much you want to spend. I have done some comparison shopping and have found that ADT is probably the most affordable but don’t just take my word for it do your research, make up your own mind, after all it is your money and your life and your home you are trying to protect not mine. Thank you for making this information available to everyone I believe it will help people make up their minds when they go to finally make a purchase.
My grandmother’s house was broken into about a year ago so If there is anyone that understands the importance of a security system it is me. There is nothing quite as unnerving and scary as getting that phone call that someone you love has been robbed and I never want to experience that again, thankfully she wasn’t hurt to bad but they did smack her around a little, so that is when I convinced her that we needed to go out and purchase a security system. So I was very thankful when I read your post about the system that can be armed to protect the outside of the house only because she stays home a lot but I want her protected at the same time. I was wondering though if you have an attached garage does the security system cover the garage too or just the door leading from the garage into the house? It didn’t help matters that they showed on the news exactly how to open an overhead garage door that had a garage door opener hooked up to it, without the garage door opener. It amazes me sometimes the stupidity of the press. Anyway thank you for posting all the information you have on security systems it helped us a lot to choose just the right one for my grandmother’s home
I have been seeing a lot more of TV commercials of ADT home security monitoring systems. Is this a seasonal holiday business? In other words, does business increase during the holidays? Maybe ADT security systems are an ideal gift to give to a loved one. It certainly makes for a caring gesture when you buy someone a home security system. It says to them that you care deeply about their safety and you are willing to spend money to ensure their safety and peace of mind. Maybe that is why there are more commercials at this time of the year.
Yes this is a busy time of year
I suggest going with the wireless system, I had an ADT security system installed at my home and it had the wires cut and the burglar took what he wanted anyway. You need to think about what is going to do the best job for you as far as covering the garage, shop and anything else. Not to mention are you in the city or the country, I know that kind of thing probably shouldn’t matter but it really does if you think about it, out in the country the burglar has a lot more time to get in and get out so he may not have to cut the wires or anything he could just bypass it another way, or not let it stop him at all depending on the response time of the police to where you live. There are a lot of things to take into consideration when you are purchasing one of these alarms and the one with the least amount of bells and whistle and is the cheapest is not always the best way to go.
I guess you could go the low tech route, which is also the more time consuming way to protect your property. I am talking about applying for a gun permit and waiting the mandatory cooling off period; Paying for a gun and a fire arm training course as well as for regular access of a gun range facility; You could also choose a much simpler and more cost effective option by purchasing a home security system like the ADT. It seems to be a very versatile alarm system in terms of the options you have for features and the type of system you can install for your kind of house.
Unless your garage is attached to your house I don’t see a reason to put a system out there unless you are particularly worried about something in your garage. Most cars have anti theft on them of some sort so that is the reason I say that, the rest of the stuff out there is lawn care stuff so I don’t care. Your article has some great tips and information in it thank you for posting.
So If you have a wireless system for your garage and workshop and you have a wired system on the house can they be monitored on the same frequency or do you end up having two different frequencies? Does it cost you more that way? Maybe I should go wireless through out and have it all on one frequency that would probably be the easiest thing to do. Any more information you may have would be great.
Everything would be monitored under one account, so it would not cost any extra.
I appreciate the advice for the alarm system on the garage and the workshop. Can it be on the same hardwired system as the house or would it be better to have it on a wireless system like you spoke of in your article? I just want to make it simple for everybody and I thought maybe this would be a little more simple. If there is any other advice on these systems please post again I would love to hear it.
If your house is wired for security, the ADT system will work with it.
