It is the holidays and that means being filled with excitement, anticipation and knowing that there will be a lot of time spent with family and friends. The last thing that a family wants is to be reporting a burglary and with ADT home security that won’t be a problem. ADT home alarms are the top rated security that a family can have against burglaries and other dangers.

This is the season when burglaries are increased, even though the weather is cold there are several things that the burglar knows that interests them and makes them want to break-in more than usual. The first thing is that they know the holidays mean new electronics; jewelry and even cash will be in almost every house. The other things that they know is that it is getting dark, while the family is still at work and after school activities, so the house is empty and they are out shopping. The house is empty much longer during the holidays between shopping and holiday get together’s.

The one thing that burglars know to look for, no matter how much a house is decorated, which means the family goes all out for the holidays and that could mean more for them, is to look for an ADT home security system. No matter how enticing a house looks burglars know that they cannot get past the ADT home alarms, with monitoring. The result would be the police being notified of the attempted break-in and arriving quickly, which doesn’t give the burglar the time they need to break-in and steal the family’s gifts and get away.

ADT home security protects the family when they are home from burglaries, smoke, fire and high levels of carbon monoxide and when they aren’t at home the house has the same great protection. The one reason that ADT home security is the number one home alarm that a family can have is due to the technology that makes it possible for the home alarm to call the ADT monitoring center where the police will be alerted. This is done by the home security system using the telephone or a cell phone to make the call to the trained operators.

Burglars study their home alarms and the one thing they know is that ADT home security is too much for them, since it can call the monitoring center, with not just the home phone, but also a cell phone. That means that even if they cut the phone line going into the house, before breaking into it that will not stop this top rated security system, since it can use a cell phone. They know it is not even possible to stop a cell phone call, because the cell phone does not have to be in the house. The ADT home security protected house is not for them and they look for the telltale signs, like the sign in the yard and the decals on the windows. When they see these, they know whatever gifts are in that house are staying there. This is proven in the annual residential burglary statistics that show a house with this level of security is not on the burglars list, but the house without protection is three times more likely to be burglarized. That makes having an ADT home security system an easy choice for the family.

Not only is it a good idea to have the ADT on your home but you definitely want to put the sticker on your door or window and the sign in your yard. Like you said just seeing that can be a deterrent to a more intelligent burglar, if there is such a thing.

  2. Andrea says:

I never thought about it but you are right the family is gone more during this time of year just simply out doing Christmas shopping, let alone the parties and things. I wonder how many burglars follow you home from the mall after they have watched you load your car and then stake out the house to get you schedule? Do you suppose that is where most of them come from?

  3. Richard says:

I am considering a security system for my wife for Christmas, I know it isn’t exactly the greatest gift for her but she has been very worried about break in’s sense we had a lot of them in the neighborhood last summer. So it may not be romantic but I think she will like it anyway. Do you really think that just having those signs in the yard and on the door deters the thieves from breaking in?

  4. Dean says:

It is so true what this article mentions about the allure factor among burglars. Thieves know that the risks they are taking can pay off more at this time of the year. And I would not underestimate their calculating nature. For example, they may wait until one or two weeks before Christmas when they know a family is done with the majority of their shopping. They might even case your place and know more about your home and your family than you care to imagine.

  5. Rene says:

I understand now the reason why I have been seeing a plethora of TV commercials about ADT home security systems. I has to be because of these crime facts and statistics. This must give the business for home alarms more a seasonal boost of sorts. And why not? Nobody wants to be the victim of holiday, predatory thieves. I fear getting robbed all the time. I don’t know what I would do if I lost my computer and hard drives with all my work. For me, it’s not about losing something of great value, like precious jewels, but rather, from losing important data.

  6. Eric says:

You are absolutely right the burglars aren’t as stupid as you think they are, they know to watch the house and get your schedule down before they attempt anything. Don’t let the burglars see you arm or disarm the security system then they won’t know if you have one or not and it will be surprise time when the cops show up.

  7. Willie says:

I have actually heard of people buying those ADT Security System signs just to place in their yards and on their doors and windows to try and deter the burglars from attempting to break in. Have you heard about this or do you know who you can get those things from so I can try it and see if it actually works before I have to spend the money on a complete system?

  8. Norma says:

There is a saying: risk ups the ante, raises the greens fees and limits the memberships. This wisdom can be applied to what the article is saying about the risk factor and how it goes up during the holidays because thieves are more willing to take risks knowing that the payoff can potentially be much greater. I know I would feel better knowing that the sticker on the front window or a more prominent sign might make the burglar move on to another house which would be less of a challenge. It’s not that I wish misfortune on any other person, but it is about doing what you can to protect your own.

  9. Wayne says:

Christmas has been really rough the past couple of years and I don’t want to add to that by having what we could get for each other stolen out from under our noses. So I went to ADT this last week and had them install a security system, and I have to say I love it so far. We haven’t had to deal with any false alarms yet thought so we’ll see what I think then.

  10. Jane says:

Yeah we got a security system after we were robbed right before Christmas. That was the worst Christmas ever, try explaining to your kids why Santa didn’t stop because that is what they automatically assumed then to have to explain what happened to the gifts he did bring. And that it wasn’t anything they did. Take it from me you don’t want that to happen.

  11. Orval says:

It is certainly a good suggestion to advertise that you have a home security system installed in your house. In addition to that, I think it is a good idea to also use stickers to advertise that you are a member of the NRA, which implies that you are a gun owner. Someone might say this could increase your risk if you really don’t own a gun because it may prompt burglars to invade your home guns blazing. However I contend that there are distinct differences with burglars. There are cat burglars whose M.O. is to rob without any resistance and then there are violent criminals who would rather take a home by force. If you become the target of a home invasion, you’re going to be met with violence anyway. So it doesn’t hurt to use an NRA sticker to deter non violent burglars.

  12. Amber says:

I love our security system, my husband is away a lot on business and it makes me feel a lot better knowing that someone besides myself is watching the house while he is gone as a matter of fact I got it for Christmas a couple of years ago when he got the job he currently has. This was a great reminder why I got one in the first place.

  13. Derek says:

It is such a shame and a horrible feeling to have everything taken from your home while you are at a Christmas party. That is why a couple of years ago, I think it was the news, started telling people to not put their Christmas gifts under the tree until the night before Christmas. That kept anyone looking in through your windows from seeing any of that stuff.

  14. Willene says:

This is absolutely right I never thought about it, but the family is gone more during this time of year just simply out doing Christmas shopping, let alone the parties and things. It would be interesting to do a poll and see just how many burglars caught actually followed people home from the mall after they have watched them load their cars? Do you suppose that is where most of them come from and how they know what house to hit?

  15. Ola says:

Like you said just seeing those stickers and signs on the windows and in the yard can be a deterrent to the thieves. I knew a guy once that had those, but didn’t have a system he said it was just for that reason, he couldn’t afford the system but he wanted the threat. I would get the system if at all possible but I guess this works too.

  16. Stella says:

I think it would be a unique touch to give a gift package made up of a gift wrapped box that when opened, will reveal a Taser gun, and an ADT window sticker along with a business card of an ADT representative whom they can call to arrange an appointment for an installation. I say this tongue-in-cheek, but this would actually make for a nifty gift idea. You could even take it to the next level and add a gun and a gun range membership with an instructor lead training for gun use. Some may be cringing, but it is better to be prepared for the worse. Besides, the ADT system is the shield that will hopefully, prevent you from ever having to use the other items.

  17. Robert says:

I hope everyone made it through the shopping craze leading up to Christmas without getting robbed. For those who didn’t get a home security system as a gift or those who are not making it their priority or new years resolution to install one in their home, remember to stay vigilant about the threat of a burglary because burglars know that many homes are now flush with brand new electronics and other valuable unwrapped gifts. The danger of getting robbed, which escalates during the holidays, has not yet dissipated. So don’t get a false sense of security and consider budgeting to improve the security in your home.

  18. Jeanne says:

I expect to have my 50′ flat screen TV delivered to my house soon. And all this dialogue about the realities and dangers of burglary is starting to make me paranoid. If a prominent truck makes it obvious that I am getting a high end TV delivered, I am going to worry that someone is casing my place. I’m may have to call the discount club from which I made this purchase and ask them if they carry any ADT home security alarms and add that to my order. Even though there is almost always someone home at my town house, I have to admit, we tend to leave the back sliding door unlocked, shielded only by the exterior wooden gate, which is semi locked from the inside by one of those sliding bolts. Those aren’t really locks as they can easily be slid open if your hand is small enough to fit through the opening between the wooden boards of the gate door. Once this bad boy is delivered, I will have to stop that dangerous habit.

  19. Steve says:

It said in your article that the stickers and signs can be a deterrent to a burglar. Do you have any statistics that reflect that statement? I am not saying that it isn’t true, because I have heard of this before but I have never found any proof of it. I even know some people that put up the stickers and signs for just that reason but they don’t really have a system, that is how much they believe it.

  20. Erin says:

We had a system put in right before Christmas last year and it was a good thing we did, we hadn’t had it but maybe a week and we hadn’t put the sign up yet or the stickers in the windows so the burglars tried to break in on Christmas Eve no less because we were at a party. We received that dreaded phone call and when we got home the police had them cuffed in the patrol car. Thank goodness for ADT.

  21. Lindsey says:

This was a very eye opening article. You are right this does happen more around the holidays, I never thought about that until now. I think the fact that it can do so much is a plus and the fact that they have added video to it is great. This security system can dial the security companies office using a cell phone frequency? I just can’t believe it!

  22. Michael says:

This product is amazing ADT it top notch in the business of security, not just home security but all kinds of security. I have always been pleasantly surprised when dealing with ADT. You have done a great job with the information you have and making it available to others. And the new monitor system they have is going to be great.

  23. Joseph says:

Until I came across this blog, I was not aware that ADT has a video surveillance feature. Does this mean that you can now have a security camera video feed and watch that feed over the internet when you are away from home? If this kind of feature exists, It will most certainly motivate people to buy an ADT system because having a live camera feed is the kind of capability many people try to install using one of those low cost web cameras like the Ninja.

  24. Denise says:

I once ordered from a web site one of those cheap $30-40 surveillance web cams that come with a screw in mount. Mounting the camera on the wall of my office was the easy part. What I didn’t bargain for was how time wasting and frustrating the process of configuring the web cam using their packaged software. And there is virtually no customer support. So once you buy it, you’re stuck with it. I ended up spending more money hiring a network administrator I knew to get it working. That cheap web camera didn’t turn out to be so cheap after all.
